New Player Movement Policy Goes Into Immediate Effect for all Clubs and Teams
The Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL), the oldest competitive youth soccer league in the country, is announcing the implementation of a comprehensive Player Movement Policy affecting all clubs and teams. This new policy is designed to create optimal development environments and increase transparency for players, families, clubs, and leagues.
The CJSL prioritizes the development of our players and strives to create the best possible environments for their growth. Our Player Movement Guidelines are designed to ensure transparency for players, families, clubs, and leagues, fostering an atmosphere of trust and clarity. We believe in putting the player first, empowering them to make informed decisions about their soccer development. Our guidelines are crafted to help clubs guide and safeguard player choices effectively.
Paul Kontonis, President of the CJSL, stated, "Our new Player Movement Policy reflects our commitment to building the most competitive player development platform in New York City. By providing clear guidelines and fostering stable development environments, we ensure that every player has the opportunity to thrive."
Dimitrie Draguca, League Director of the CJSL, added, "This policy allows clubs to organize full-season development programming for players and gives players the time to settle into new teams. It limits misguided player transfers while maintaining our focus on the player’s best interests."
Our Player Movement Guidelines emphasize the importance of stability in a player's development environment. Players are encouraged to spend at least half of the season in the same environment, as consistency is crucial for their growth and development. By adhering to these principles, the CJSL aims to support and nurture the aspirations of our players, ensuring they have the best opportunities to succeed and thrive in their soccer journeys.
Overview of the Player Movement Policy
Effective for the 2024-2025 season, the CJSL Player Movement Policy includes the following key points:
Commitment to Clubs: Once registered in GotSport and paid for by the club, players are committed to their clubs for the entire CJSL 24/25 season, with specific exceptions.
Player Transfers: Players may change clubs during the season if approved by CJSL and the move is made during the Open Player Transfer Window. All transfers require written communication between clubs and must adhere to CJSL guidelines.
Special Circumstances: CJSL may grant a player's request to leave their current club and register with a different club outside of the Player Movement Period under special circumstances granted that the player is in good financial standing with their current club.
